When Pepper Stetler learned that her daughter Louisa, who has Down syndrome, would be required to take periodic IQ tests to secure support in school, she asked a simple question: why? The hunt for an answer set Stetler on a winding, often dark investigation into how the IQ test came to be the "irrefutable" standard for measuring intelligence. The result of that journey is A Measure of Intelligence: One Mother's Reckoning with the IQ Test.  Please join us as Stetler discusses her research and how rethinking intelligence can make the world a better place.

Pepper Stetler is Professor of Art History at Miami University. In addition to her research on art and photography, Stetler has written extensively on issues facing people with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers in publications such as The New York Times, The Atlantic, Slate, and The Wall Street Journal

This event is open to all and free to attend, but registration is required.  Questions?  Please reach out to Mollie Young at youngmr@miamioh.edu.
