Join us online as Miami professors share stories, learnings, pictures and results from a unique collaboration!

The Myaamia Art and Culture Education partnership is an ongoing collaboration that has so far provided over 2,000 Oxford and Cincinnati elementary schoolers and over 100 Miami Art Education students with meaningful learning experiences informed by direct collaboration with the Myaamia Center at Miami, the research arm of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma.

Each fall, Miami Art Education students collaborate with Myaamia Scholars to develop a curriculum about Myaamia history and contemporary creative life - much-needed in a state that presently ranks sixth-from-last in measures of learning standards about Indigenous peoples! The Miami students then teach youth in Oxford-area fourth-grade classes and Cincinnati fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-graders.

Dr. Stephanie Harvey Danker, is passionate about preparing future art educators to contribute in meaningful ways towards growth in their students and communities. She is committed to creating integrated learning experiences with students and colleagues, and dedicated to expanding awareness, critical thinking and empathy through art experiences.  Stephanie earned her Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Luke Meeken's research attends to the cultivation of critical sensitivities to the material qualities of digital and physical places in arts learning. Drawing on critical and performative digital materialisms, and critical and anticolonial readings of place and place-making, Meeken's research examines the habits of attention youth bring to the material histories, politics, and embodied interactions of the digital places they participate in and create. Meeken has been an active board member on the Caucus for Social Theory in Art Education (CSTAE), serving as the CSTAE's Digital Curator from 2019 to 2021, and as CSTAE's Coordinator from 2024-2026.
