Join us for a special event as we present a hybrid version of the RCGS Special Speaker Event,
Transforming Gender Norms: Opening Small Spaces for Big Change in
Rural Mali and Ecuador talk.

The Department of Global and Intercultural Studies invites you to attend, Transforming Gender Norms: Opening Small Spaces for Big Change in Rural Mali and Ecuador. One of the Tandana Foundation's key projects is to empower women in Mali and Ecuador, who face various challenges in their lives. In response to the women's requests, the foundation is providing literacy, numeracy classes, and educational opportunities, to help them become more independent in the market and provide better support for their families. The foundation is dedicated to empowering women and providing them with the resources they need for a brighter future. Join us as grassroots community organizers from Mali and Ecuador discuss how small steps improve the lives of women in these communities. A reception will follow. This event is possible through the generous support of a Mellon Grant.

About The Tandana Foundation

The Tandana Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports intercultural volunteer experiences and community initiatives in Ecuador's Otavalo Canton and Mali's Bandiagara District. Community initiatives include, but are not limited to, education, health, food security, water resources, environmental conservation, and income generation. The focus of the Tandana Foundation is not about imposing a developmental worldview; instead, the community's voice is its most significant concern. The primary goal is to bring these initiatives to life while creating responsible relationships among people of different cultures via volunteering and development
initiatives.
