Alumni Katie Garrett and Darren Campbell from downtown Pensacola's Old Hickory Whiskey Bar walk you through the creation of two holiday-themed cocktails and share their expertise. There is a cocktail mixing demo and live Q&A!

Featured Holiday Cocktails:

"A Seasoned Move" & "Ryte Inclination" featuring Maker's Mark whiskey and Knob Creek rye. The kits mentioned in the video can be purchased online or picked up from Old Hickory Whiskey Bar in downtown Pensacola.

COCKTAIL RECIPES

Ryte Inclination

  1. In a mixing vessel/glass:
    1. 2 oz. Knob Creek Rye
    2. .5 oz Amaretto
    3. 2 dashes Angostura Orange
    4. 2 dashes Chocolate Bitters
  2. Add whole ice to the mixing vessel.
  3. Stir mixture thoroughly with a long bar spoon.
  4. Add crushed ice to the drinking glass and then pour the mixture over the crushed ice.
  5. Top with cider of your choice.
  6. Express the orange peel into the drink and swipe around the rim. Use the orange peel as a garnish. 
  7. Enjoy!

A Seasoned Move

  1. In your drinking glass:
    1. 2 oz. Maker’s Mark
    2. .5 oz. Pineapple Juice
    3. 2 oz. Gingerbread Syrup (homemade or store-bought)
    4. 2 dashes Angostura Orange
    5. 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  2. Add whole ice so it’s almost to the top of the glass.
  3. Pour mixture into cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Then, transfer mixture back into your drinking glass.
  4. Add crushed ice. (optional)
  5. Top the ice with a splash of gingerbread syrup and let it seep down into the drink. (optional)
  6. Garnish with an orange slice and black amarena cherry (or normal cherry).
  7. Enjoy!

BONUS RECIPES

Gingerbread Syrup

  • 20 oz water
  • 700g white sugar
  • 50g molasses
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1g whole cloves
  • 1g whole allspice
  • 3g ground nutmeg
  • 35g fresh ginger (peeled and chopped)

Steps:

  1. Using some of the water, mince up the chopped ginger in a blender.
  2. Using a medium sized pot, crack your spices and add them together over medium heat until your kitchen smells aromatic.
  3. Add the rest of your water to the pot and bring to a boil for 4 minutes.
  4. Lower your heat, add sugar, your ginger from the blender, molasses and bring the heat up until dissolved and blended.
  5. Allow to cool and then strain with a boullion strainer or a fine mesh strainer.
  6. Bottle and refrigerate.

Spiced Cranberry Sauce
Mix into sparkling wine or prosecco!

  • 18 oz. cranberry juice (not from concentrate)
  • 7 oz/half a can of jellied cranberry sauce
  • 10 oz. water
  • 300g cane or brownsugar
  • 200g brown sugar
  • 1 orange
  • 5 cinnamon sticks
  • 3g ground allspice
  • 3g kosher salt
  • 1g ground nutmeg
  • 1g ground cloves
Steps:
  1. Mix the liquids and jellied sauce in a pot or blender (put on soft speeds)
  2. Crack your cinnamon sticks and spices into a medium saucepan on low heat. Continue letting it roast until the smell of the spices fills the kitchen. 
  3. Add all ingredients together and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Let it simmer on medium heat for about 15 minutes, and after that let it cool. 
  5. Strain with a boullion strainer or fine mesh strainer and refrigerate.
